Limited Capacity seats available

Description:  Learn how to use Subtext and Schoology to provide a variety of non-fictional materials (articles and videos) connected to the lesson content. Help students recognize and connect the themes that are present in the stories of all the informational sources. Students strengthen their compare-contrast skills through oral discussion and essay-writing.

I will use the end-unit for the sixth grade core literature novel, Julie of the Wolves, to illustrate the common core strategies to integrate non-fiction materials with Subtext and Schoology, including articles, videos, and personal narratives.  I will also share how we integrated classroom discussions about character traits and life events to support development of the final essay.

Take-Aways:
  • How to save Ads-free articles on Subtext,
  • How to post discussion questions for students to respond to the articles
  • How to use the multi-media informational sources to effectively compare and contrast through oral discussions and through essay-writing
Please Bring:
An iPad with Subtext downloaded and download Helper Add-on from Firefox or other browser-- to download ads-free videos OR a laptop
